I’m finally getting around to putting up some new pictures of the shop girls new quilts they have been working on.   Vickie finished “Star Spangled” with the Blackbird Designs Blueberry Crumb Cake fabrics.  It is yummy!   I coupled it at the bottom of the bed with Maggies “Blue & White Quilt” from Buttonwood Farm, and hung our ”Plain & Fancy Quilt” out of Barbara Brackman’s Morris fabrics over the bed.   It’s making me happy.    The Star Spangled quilt is 74 x 74, the kit sells for $188.65 and you will need the pattern, it is $10.00.  Maggie’s Blue and White quilt kit makes a great throw quilt, it is 48 x 48 and the kit is $68.00.  If you don’t own a Buttonwood Farm Book this is just one more reason you probably will want to.  The book is $24.95.  Plain & Fancy is made out of the New Morris Fabrics from Moda this quilt measures 56 x 65, the kit is $105.00 and the pattern is $8.50.  You can finally see the whole quilt and it is very impressive.

  You can also see one of our new everyday baskets.  Stitchers and Quilters this is a wonderful functional basket for you to store your fabrics or stitchery in.  It has a top and really makes a nice addition in your studio or just out in the everyday decor so you can keep your projects organized.   The cost of the covered basket is $53.75.

 We also just got in more of the popular wreaths we love to use everywhere our  new Rooster is the chosen one right now.   I think you will agree he is a handsome piece of folkart and sells for $163.00.  It is fun for us girls when spring begins to get into our decor not that we have had a long winter, but if it’s not going to be winter we would rather concentrate on Spring, it’s almost March and we are ready.  There are three more new quilts coming that you will want to be sure and check out.  I like our new spring quilts because there is a nice range in size if you are rady for a bed size, a throw, something for the wall or table we have wonderful choices we can offer you.

 It’s been a good day so far, I just got a dozen roses delivered to the shop, we girls had Valentine Nachos from the General Store for lunch, and chocolate covered cherries for desert.  If that isn’t just the perfect day I don’t know what is.  I happen to mention to Reed last night that neither of us need anything so don’t buy me anything, not even a card, we agreed I thought.  Oh well, I’m taken the roses!  They are few and far between and they so beautiful!    I think we might even hit a movie tonight “The Vow”!  I watched the real life couple on the Today show yesterday tell their true story that is being told in the movie.  It’s a winner and I love that there are people that take there vows seriously and are willing to fight for them, we will be married 44 years this month and we never gave up.   The man I married hates movies but we went a week ago because he wanted to see “The Grey” I can’t believe we are going again, I love movies and I have been waiting to go for years.  I was listening to an author this morning that says you marry at least 6 men and that is because they all change from the catch to the really great guy they end up.  Just maybe I got to number six today!   I can actually say I’ve seen it coming.  It started when our daughter had Miss Carley.  The author also says women tend to change that much too.  I agree, I would much rather be me today for the most part with one exception I would like the skinny me version.  It must not bother me that much I haven’t taken up running yet and I sure enjoyed the nachos and chocolate I had for lunch.

Enough about me.   I want to take a minute to talk about the new, Blackbird Designs book.  Alma released the cover of there new book that I talked about last week.  It is called “For My Friend”, there are 12 designs and the infamous Sugar Hearts cookie recipe is even included.  I made the cookies over the weekend.  They were yummy I even had to have one for breakfast this morning and the cookie fries look just like fries and taste great.  The whole family gives them a big thumbs up, I found the big boys especially enjoyed them.  The dough was even great to work with and tasted wonderful, if you follow the recipe you will be impressed with yourself too.

I wanted you to see the new “Bridgeport” line of fabric from Jo Morton so I took a few pics so you can get an idea.  The colors are rich and work into many quilts you are dreaming of making.

This is a picture of “Lunch with General” from Country Threads new Back to Charm School book.  This is a wonderful book that is worth owning for $24.99.  The kit to do the topper up is only $21.50 and includes everything needed even your backing and binding.  The other little runner you see on top was featured a couple of weeks ago and now it is all quilted and bound.   I hope a few of you got it made up to put out for Valentines Day.  

I think the new topper would be a perfect summer accent  to use on your table.  Flags would be great on it if you do a 4th of July picnic.   I’m just saying!  This would be fun to get together with friends and make up too if you are longing for a bit of inst       

Jimmie the “Ground Hog”  lives about an hour from us and he perdicted we will have an early spring!  We are choosing to believe him even if he is only 3 years old and inexperienced.   This winter has been nothing but mild and I think in this neck of the woods spring is coming.   So!  I thought today I would snap a few new pictures around the shop and show you just a few new good things to think about.  As far as new quilts we are definitely a week out on the quilting and binding of four new show stopping quilts  and a new charm runner called ”Lunch with the General” that is like in the ”French General” fabrics we all love.  There are lots more surprises to come as fabrics roll in and we bring our ideas together.  When the new year begins it is like starting your engine all over again and it takes time.  I am at markets and working on end of the year necessities so I hope you can find a little something to get your motor running as I show you new quilts that are bringing us into spring.

  A “Quilt for Alice”.  It is a new favorite, it’s so vintage looking with its soft color palette which makes it work well in most decors.  Suzanne made this  Bonnie Blue pattern up for us.   I thought our spatterware bowlslooked pretty swell with it too and do take notice of our new “Tin Horse”.  We ordered him at market and last week I opened my new Sundance catalog and there he was for $35.00 the very same horse we sell for $29.00.  So pick us, we are on that cutting edge too and at a great price point.  He’s handsome and so prim and a great addition for your decor.  Selma and I loved his color too and don’t you think he goes well with Alice?

I am putting a picture up of our Hibiscus jars.  For $11.95 you will be applauded when your guests are served this treat. It’s not only tasty but oh so pretty too.   There are many great serving ideas for using the Hibiscus Flowers so this is not just for using in champagne, think margaritas, salad, bruschetta, and for desert to name a few. What an awesome hostess gift if you get invited out to a Valentine party. 

Next I wanted to give you another look at our new “Plain & Fancy” quilt Selma made up from Barbara Brackmans new “Morris” fabrics.  It is lucious and a fun addition going into spring.  Wait until we put out the rabbits  this quilt  looks like Easter and even the Morris fabric has rabbits on it.  It’s a perfect choice!  The days are already ticking by, March will be here before we know it.   

We are still loving those Railroad Lanterns hanging inside or out or just sitting on a table with a candle.    ”Pure and Simple” is the other quilt you can see on the left and we do have just a few of these kits left before we think about trying it again. You wil definitely see a patriotic theme coming for summer as we prepare for our Grand Old Flag Event this coming June.  The new wooden flag you can see comes in two sizes, it is wood, comes from Canada and easy to display.  The lagrge flag you see is $88.00 and the small version is$44.00.  Our Tin Rooster is still a wonderful primitive display item and I can’t wait for you to see some more new tinware we have arriving just in time for spring.  I think you can begin to get the idea.   Vickie and I were screaming today because we can begin to see it all coming together.

 I am going to direct you to our girl Club page so you can see our new Stacy Nash club offering.  It is so awesome and we love the the tone on tone colors.  This is going to be a new favorite.  There is still time to get into the club and receive this new project.

I need to show you a new Charm Square runner from the New Country Threads “Back to Charm School” book.  If you haven’t got one yet you will need it as we will be making up several of the great designs.  The book is only $24.99.    We changed the name to “Farmhouse Tea Party” because the colors were soft, aged, and fun and it just looked like it needed to be on a Farmhouse table.  The finished size is 20″ x 48 1/2″.   I’d have tea and a sweet treat and feel pretty special if I was invited over and guess what it makes up so fast you could even have it done before Valentines Day.  This would also be a fun excuse for a group friend project day to ward of the the winter blues.  Winter Therapy!   The kit is available for $31.50.  We can always add a back if you need one too.   You will notice ours is not quilted yet but when it is wow.  The color palette is perfect and it will roll right into spring.  If you have the book the pattern is on page 11.

Also pictured is a New Tin Heart.  This heart can go anywhere it has a fine hanger so it really is easy to display and only $8.00.  Just a little FYI:  We just got in lots more table settings of the Vintage Plated Silver Table Settings.  If you are collecting you may want to stop in and take a look. 

We just got Stacy’s “Mary Burdus” back from our stitcher and framer.  It is a great old schoolgirl exampler that can go anywhere but especially nice when displayed with other antiques.  Have a look! 

 Our stitcher also sent us Stacy’s  ”Malabar Farm”  I love it too, its aged and stuffed with sawdust just the way Stacy has taught us to do.  This is a great prim stitch if you are looking for a new project.   If you are a fan of Stacy Nash Primitives our  new 2012 Stacy Club will be shipping next week.  It is never too late to join this exclusive club that ships only 4 times a year.  I haven’t seen the auto but I know our first project is going to be for Valentines Day.

We’re Back to snow on the ground and some pretty wintery temperatures.  I wanted it and I’m getting it but what I didn’t want was to come home and get a horrendous cold.  Yikes I can’t even breath, not a good thing.  I need to just quickly show you a couple of our new quilts that are finally ready to go. 

Selma just finished  “Plain & Fancy” this is a Perkins Dry Goods pattern and we chose to make up the throw size which is 56″ x 65″.  The fabrics we used are from Barbara Brackmans new Morris  & Company.  We all love the Morris tapestry fabrics, every quilt we make with them always looks so vintage.  We have the kits made up for  $105.00 and the we also have the collection cut and packaged into fat eigths, these are $72.00 and we only have a limited amount.  The pattern for the quilt is $8.00. 

The next quilt Suzanne made up, it’s a Bonnie Blue pattern Vickie and I fell in love with at market.  It is a wonderful soft old looking quilt that can go with anything and go anywhere.  Our kind of quilt.  The quilt is called “A Quilt for Alice” and again it is not a  huge quilt but very usuable.  It is 52″ x 70″, the kit is $108.50 and the pattern is $10.00.  

We have several more new quilts in the works that may be ready by next weekend when we are offering Maggies’s“Heart Pinkeep“class.  There is room in both morning @10am and @1pm afternoon sessions so we would love to hear from you if you can join us.  The cost for the class and kit is $20.95. You will need the Buttonwood Farm book but I know most everyone has one but if you don’t you will love it and enjoy all of the projects and agree it is worth owning.  We will also be serving some wonderful sweet treats andI can’t wait to have you taste our champagne.

Now for the highlight of our trip to Atlanta.  We were able to sit in on the Dean Brothers special cooking event.  Here are  Jamie and Bobbie Dean they were so entertaining and fun to listen to.  They never forget Mama either which a great trait.  We were thrilled to see them up close because there were at least 300 other people maybe even more there for the event.   we were able to encoporate a  little time for play because you can only look at so much stuff at one time and then you need a break.   My Guess is if I had these two over for tea we would have an event no one would ever forget.   We also managed to squeeze in the new movie Iron Lady, the Margaret Thatcher story with Meryl Streep.  It was very good.  

Another item you might want to think about for Valentine’s Day is our New Red Hot Candle jars.  We also have what is called Primitive Blend and we are all loving this one as well.  The jars sell for $16.95 and are festive and make great gifts for a hostess or best friend. 

It is a an exciting time of year for me when the slate is wiped clean and we can begin a new.  Before I get into to many things I would like to share a picture of the grandchilren at Christmas.  The older ones like to pose but Miss Carley is very busy these days and has other ideas.   We finally got her to sit on a Christmas present, no smile so I gave up trying but you  get the idea.  Our Michael will be trying for his drivers liscense next week.    Michael is 16, Marcus is 14, Mason is 12, Emma is 10, Ayden is 6 and Carley is 2.  What alot of fun this family is. 

I’m still enjoying my paperwhites, it isn’t too late to start yours.  It’s refreshing and so  much fun to wake up and be greeted by the fragrant white flowers blooming on my kitchen windowsil.  Happy New Year!

I have started transforming the shop into its winter mode.  I have to say as much as we all enjoyed Christmas this past year everyone in the shop is ready for a change.

In my newsletter this week I mentioned several quilts that we did not actively market because we could see they bridged the gap into winter.   Vickie designed two incredible quilts for the holidays “Windmills Over the Prairie” and Remember Me” which I have just dressed our bed in.  The one thing you will come to realize is when we create a holiday line of quilts they are going to be classic, never scream holiday because we like to think a quilt is something you can use more than a few weeks out of the year.   We do pay attention to color but very seldom do we get out of the box unless we find a pretty adorable whimsical or primitive pattern that still fits our recognizable style.     The quilt you are seeing hanging to the right of the bed is called “Farmhouse Christmas“.  We used some very unique specialty Moda French General fabrics, Japanese wovens and prints to create this quilt.  The interesting thing is we have done quilts like this but this time we added a twist we included blocks that were pieced and added a border that used 2 different coordinating fabrics to add another dimension. The colors are lighter and could be a wonderful addition in a contempory or even primitive home decor.   The next quilt you can see is called “Dancing With The Stars” this is a classic red and cream colored quilt but we had to

add a few touches of our favorite grey color just because.   These quilts are great color choices for the season. You can also see Christmas Baby Beth.  The reds used in this quilt would be a perfect choice for Valentines Day.  

You will also notice in my favorite “Star Pillows” displayed on the bed.  We have them kitted for $14.00 and the kit is made up to do the three pillows you are seeing.  These were designed from antique pillows I own and can never seem to put away. 

I just set up a winter table scape with our beautiful white dishes and vintage collectible silver plated table settings.  The  five piece table settings can be purchased for $27.50 and each piece is different, nothing matches, which adds completes the over all vintage table presentation.  I was picturing this in my mind last evening and I knew I wanted to use our “Beasley” quilt for the table topper.  It is a grand way to do up lunch with some of your best friends.  The soup dishes make me want to go home and make some of my favorite soups.  I can’t think of anything more comforting.  I even kept out our snow covered lit trees. This may be as close to snow as we see this winter and keeps things a little festive.   

Have you had time to think about hearts?  We have!   I have wanted to make up Maggie’s “Old Heart Pin Keep” which is in the Buttonwood Farm Book since it came out.   Of course its done our way with wools the complement the holiday and our little cream colored Folk Angel is loving it.  It looks like it belongs in her hand for sure.  The Heart Pinkeep kits are $10.95 and our little FolkAngel sells for $68.00.  

 I even think it looks pretty special hanging on our little vintage vanity.  The vanitys will be coming back into the shop by February they sold out so fast  last year.  I think this will look great hanging on a cupboard knob too.  Here is a close up so you can see our color choices and decide if you might want to make at least two. 

We are so excited over Jo Morton’s ‘Variety’ fabric in the red and creams.  We sent the fat quarter packs out for Black Sheep and I think now is the time you might just be looking for these colors.  What a wonderful Valentine project these fabrics could make.  The fabric is $11.00 per yard. 

 We have 6 fat quarters of lights and darks packaged for $18.00 per pack.  These are wonderful old prints and are some of our favorites. 

I thought you might like to see them up close and personal. 

You can also see in the background of this picture our “Christmas Star Quilt” hanging over the back of the chair in the window, we introduced this quilt at at open house too.  This has been a great quilt, just the right size measuring 48 x 56 and selling for $64.00.  Pattern sold seperately at $8.50.   As you can see and as we should be we are kind of into red. 

I want to share one more little idea.   This little quilt could be used as a table topper but the pattern calls it a” One Patch Doll Quilt”.   It ends up being 25 1/2  inches by 25 1/2 inches.  We used some beautiful colors that I thought would really set off a container of fresh paperwhites or a compote with greens.  The pattern is in the Civil War Sewing Circle and the kit is only $26.00.  We even used a great woven Japanese fabric for the inner border. 

Embrace Winter!

I got my wish for snow!!!  I could not believe how beautiful it was on Thursday morning when I got up because when I went to bed I could hear it raining.  It was breath taking so calming and peaceful you just wanted to drink it in.  Unfortunately it is one of those things called now you see now you don’t we just can’t settle into winter, I believe the first day of winter was Wednesday so I’m just not sure what is going on, something for sure.  I savored as much as I could and ran out to

get pictures so I could share some with you.  This  is taken right off the front porch, the birds were everywhere and happy too they loved this winter wonderland just as much as I did.  I’m going to keep these handy as the temps are perdicted to rise and just know it almost was a white Christmas. 

 Merry Christmas to all!  The shop girls and I will see you on December 27th. 

 It will be another short week with New Years and then we will all be ready  to put our track shoes back on as we transform the shop and bring in lots of new quilts for an exciting 2012!!!!

The house is almost done except bringing in fresh greens on Christmas Eve and the shoppng and wrapping but there is still time for that.  I’m so longing for snow, but not a flake yet. 

I told you I would share the family Christmas tree when I got it decorated and a little tour of the house.  My web program has been giving me fits and not working but today Gwen figured a way around the problem so I could get this finally done. 

 Here are some pictures of my house this Christmas , I’m still futsing with the trees and lights outside, I haven’t quite got the concept I invisioned but by Christmas I will, our friend John brought me some Cedars tops today to work into the frey so by Saturday I will get it figured out. 

 The pics will follow a path from the front door through to the dining room and finally get to the family tree.  I am trying to enjoy it a wee bit every night because it really is a pretty grand tree.    You have to see the ornament Vickie made for all of girls this year.  It is an snow girl and Suzanne made us the most wonderful paper wings some of us gave out snow girls wings. I have to say the Christmas we girls share with each other is always by far the best because we all know each other so well. 

The greatest gift of all is that we all get to be little girls again, share the excitement of the season and enjoy just being altogether. 

The days are getting away from me.  I know I’m not the only one that is stressing over this but  as long as we are all participating in this full blown holiday season we will muddle through.  It is kind of funny we think we have to entertain friends we could have called months ago, get all the shopping done which I know I put off and the list goes on and on but I really do enjoy getting the house in order and all the preparation that goes into the season.  I am longing for some down time to stitch but maybe there will be a snowday to take care of that wish. 

 If you love a snow day too you might just want to have this new Stacy Nash Sampler on hand to stitch.  “Mary Burdus” is a wonderful Schoolgirl Sampler dating back to 1828 when Mary was just seven years old.  It is a great primitive sampler done up in my favorite color black except for a capital M she stitched in another color.  This can be done in any favorite color.  I invite you to take a look.  The chart is $14.00.

  The newest Pineberry Lane sampler called “Christmastide” is really awesome and looks like a fun stitch.  There are deer, sheep, snowflakes and a house to stitch.   This sure meets my criteria for a Winner!

Country Stitches New Winter Season Sampler”, and the newest ”January Word Play” should be in this week too. People are really enjoying doing the word play samplers it is just something a little different and thats what we like. 

Linda from Chessie and Me released her  “Snowman Snowflakes” pin cushion pattern that was part of her club projects from last January.  I know you will love this fun project, the pattern is $10.00.  With all these fun choices Winter can’t be that bad.  Stay warm and enjoy the holiday season.

It’s that time of year when we all fall in love with the idea of getting our homes ready for Christmas.  It’s a time for preparation and anticipation of the entertaining we will do with our family and friends.   December is always a busy month and I think we can help you with your holiday decor dilemas. 

 Our “Turkey Pair” has been one of the most incredible pieces Selma and I found at market last January.  We were in love with them from the time we laid  our eyes on them but they were pricey.  The more we looked at them the more we knew it was one of those items that just fit us and our customers that are looking for  something extraordinary.   

 This pair is timeless and can be enjoyed through out the year.  The pair retails for $212.00.  I love them on the table, I used our juniper garland from the shop and the small tinsel wreaths around my antique candle holders.    Next I wanted to try them out on my mantel so here is another idea.   This will be there home this holiday season.  I just had to put a small wreath around the males neck.  It is festive and just commands your attention. 

The next best item  from market was our remote candles.  I’m telling you these are genius, it’s so easy to hit the button and everything goes off or on or you can even set these candles to glow for 2-8 hours and then go off on there own.  We have all sizes and they are just about the best thing since sliced bread.  You can see them amongst my juniper garland on the mantel but I will give you some other visuals too.

The largest candle we have fits perfectly into our large tinsel wreath and how elegant that looks.   We have  these “Tinsel Wreaths” in 3 different sizes.  Take notice of how great the tiny wreaths look on my dinning light, I used them on the candelabras we are showing this season too and we also have a great mercury glass holder that fits them and really makes an affordable hostess gift for only $10.00.  The small wreaths alone are $3.00, the medium size wreath is $8.95 and the large wreath is $12.95.  Resonably priced, elegant and they look great in a primitive setting.  It’s just another good thing. 

 I took this candle idea just one step further and I  displayed it on our “Tin Risers“.  These risers are round, have a great design etched into the tin  that makes them stand out in your display.    They are sold  in a set of three for $118.50.  Ladies this is a great way to add height, I have used them in the shop but at home I like them with my Santas and candles.    Not only can you use the risers for display but think about using them for serving, how special this could be.   I love a great display piece that can be used in a multitude of ways.   The next photo shows you how to use the tiny tinsel wreaths on our Candelabras we have been showing this year and I love how they dress up my dinning table light.  The Candelabras come in a  round shape and they come in a old gray color that looks so primitive.   We also sell an oval shape that comes in an old  ivory.   They are both good choieces for $70.00.  I  used the juniper garland and a large ivory satin ribbon to wined through them.  On the ivory oval I used two of our medium tinsel wreaths to fill in the tray bottom and then added the ivory ribbon.  It makes a very classy table scape.

Going back to the tin risers I have been telling you about, here is a photo of how our Vintage Belsnickels look in a vignette in my home.   We have so many neat sizes and styles this year and still have a good selection in the shop.   The prices range from $24.00 – $45.00.  The new  Vintage glittered Santas are new and very classy looking. 

  Another very neat thing we found this year was an old tin bucket with a leather strap and the bucket was filled with realistic looking Snowdrops.  I will hang mine on  my French door handle and this will be a welcoming sight all winter.   I have a close up of the Snowdrops so you can really get a feel for how they look.  The Snowdrops are made of silk.  This would be a lovely gift for someone that has everything but a green thumb and a constant reminder of spring.  The snowdrops retails for $77.50. 

 I am going to show you another picture of the remote candles set up on the table this time and tinsel wreaths and garland on my windowsills.  Simple Elegance!  This is the start to my decorating and I hope you might feel inspired by our holiday offerings this season.     By the way the candles are ivory not yellow as they appear  in this photo it must be the person behind the camera, who knows!     It is fun to see how just a simple piece  added to you arangements can totally change your whole decor.  It is magic and we love being a part of that for you.    I will continue updating you on how the decorating is coming along at my house.  We love it that our customers share pics there with us on how they are using our unique items in there holiday houses.
Drum Roll Please!
Next item that I can’t wait to tell you about is “Blackbird Designs” two new patterns.    You are going to flip out over these.   I have known that a CHristmas sampler was in the works but I hadn’t seen even a glympse until today.  OMG!  The book is called “Christmas Garden” and it is one of the most incredible samplers for the season that I have seen for awhile.  The leaflet/book also has two other projects and sells for $16.00.  It is done up on 30 ct. R&R Sheep Straw linen and uses only four colors, two Crescent and two Gentle Arts but a total of 16 threads of these 4 colors are needed.  The sampler measures 18 1/4″ by 25″ so you will have to have a 1/2 yard of linen but the good thing about this is the next new pattern “Crowning the Tree”  uses the same linen and same count so you are going to already have the linen that is needed for this project.    The kit complete will run approximately $92.80.   I have enough linen ordered for 30 kits so if you are interested we anticipate we will be shipping this complete by the end of next week please give us a call and get yours reserved.  If you have some down time with the holidays this will be a project you will not want to pass on.    

 I also wanted to show you the most wonderful Vintage Holiday Stamping Sets we are selling this year.    I can’t think of a better way to decorate  packages and envelopes.  We also just have Tag Sets so if you don’t want to play with the rubber stamps and ink pads.

We are all in love with the block letters because we take our antiqued tags we make in the shop and we can write our own message.    Another thing we like is the antique papers Holiday Gift Wrap.   It is special and would be only used  for your primitive loving friends.  It has some of the same images we have framed in the shop only on a lot smaller scale.  The old paper artist wrap is $7.50 for for a 36″ x 24″ sheet .

The Artists Holiday Paper Dolls are  some of my favorites.   They are so primitive looking and I like to stuff mine with our favortie cotton batting which sells for $8.95 a bag. Where ever you decide to put them I know you will enjoy them.  I have several and use them all over the house.  They are priced at $12.00 and the papers you can frame are $5.00.   They also look really great with our German Twig trees.  This is another thing I find I can’t live without.  The German trees are just made to look great with tiny white lights, mercury glass ornaments and I even use old primitives angels on mine it just depends on the year it is never the same at my house.   Remember we sell these trees and they range in size from 3ft. – 8 ft. and there is still time to ship them in time for Christmas.
