It’s all about that Grand Olde Flag this week.  Can you believe it’s almost Memorial Day weekend?  Where has this month gone?    I kind of know the answer.   There are always so many end of the year events with the grand children it just gets way busy.  I can’t keep up.  Peeps get out your flags!  We have the greatest canvas flag it is for inside or out and of course never being quite satisfied I had to antique mine with our instant antique spray.  I love the effect and use on everything.   I think you will too if you like an old prim look.  The Canvas flag you are seeing is $60.00.  If you are in need of the best antiquing solution we have it for $12.50.  You might not feel the need to age your flag but I think it makes it even better.

You can also see the New Prim Sister Darning Pinkeep.  We are still waiting for the linen but I am hopeful it will be any day. Don’t you love the teal brush tree with flags in it?  I keep going back to Catherine’s Cross but look at it, it’s amazing.  The colors are what I am attracted to.

I have been playing house again and moving things around again getting ready for the season to change again and you will see us getting ready for summer and all of the summer guests we hope that will find there way to visit us.  I love our tin boxes, and our angels are now holding flags they love the change of season too.  You can see our wonderful old suitcases stacked, the Star stitchery we are all crazy for and then there are great flag pillows to consider.  Isn’t this fun!  the pillows sell for $29.95.  I love how they dress up your summer décor.

Our GOF event will be here in two weeks and we are beginning to put together new fabrics from Paula Barnes.  We just got in a shipment of great new prints we are enjoying.  You will also see a new line of dressing gowns.  Vickie is already on this one and I think you will see a new quilt soon.

Nana & D-Dad were smitten with our baby Jenna this past Sunday.  It was her baptism day and she was in her Sunday best.  She was the best little girl  always full of big grins and such twinkling eyes.  She let almost everyone hold her and get a squeeze and love.  You just want to tweek her little cheeks and kiss her.  Who can resist this little darling?  Jenna is doing so much better it almost like night and day.

I feel the need to share a couple pictures of new models and new picture of Baby Jenna.  I am always excited to get new models stitched and up in the shop for my customers to see.  I did the final antiquing on Stacy’s Spring at Hollyberry Farm .  I love it.  It is ready to go to the framer now so I thought you might be interested in seeing how neat it turned out and want to invest in a new summer stitching project.   I had thought I could price this out by what Stacy listed for threads but it took much more as I read from my stitcher notes this morning.  The kit on 30 count is $88.70, we have sent out kits  at the 64.00 price but you will need more threads because you use 2 threads on the 30 count linen in the kit.  We have it on 32 count and several folks still use two threads so that is what we kitted it with and the cost of the 32 count linen kit is $78.80.

I think Stacy is working on  a new Summer sampler.   I bet it will be patriotic for sure.  I can hardly wait for the next sampler!

My stitcher also finished Lidya Corker’s Stitching Pocket.   I have kits on both of these projects advertised in this weeks newsletter.

Just a FYI: I think the new Maggie Club piece is getting closer, I talked to Blackberry Primitives this week.  You can also anticipate some great new patterns from them when they get through this weeks Quilt Market in Portland.

Our little Miss “Jenna” will be baptized this weekend, she is six months old.  She has gained almost 4 pounds  and  now weighs over 14 lbs. and is almost sitting up all by herself.  Mama Sara was getting packed for a DC trip this week and Jenna just happened to find her way into Sara’s suitcase.  I just thought you all would like to know the power of getting on the right formula.   Her smiles make your heart so full.  Look at those little cheeks.  I can’t wait to go and help Sara get ready and have a sleepover this weekend.  It is really hard to put this baby down, she just loves being cuddled.

I finally got a play day in the house!  It makes me feel so good, I need a weeks worth to clean out drawers and closets too.  It’s fun for me to change up the place it energizes my soul much the same as it does in the shop only the shop gets most of my attention in that department.

A very good customer was lamenting last week she would like to see me post pictures of my kitchen.  I guess I never  really have shown  any pictures on line but thought no one would actually be interested.  I have a smaller kitchen but it is functional and since I was cleaning up and moving things I decided that I could maybe give our good friend Holly a look.  Holly lives in a beautiful log home in the woods.  My style is new eighteenth century.    I have painted farm house style cupboards and stained cabinets, old pine floors and white washed bead board ceilings.  My kitchen was redone a few years ago and honestly I love it because I finally got it opened up so it would feel and function better.  We spend most of our time hanging out at the counter on the left.    I like the variation of the stained cabinets mixed with the painted. This counter area is used as a beverage serving bar when we are hosting guests so the main counter is left uninterrupted.  I also have a library of recipe books I use the most on the shelves.  I  chose glass doors for that unit too because I keep some of my special dishes there.  Meet Maddy one of my sweet cats she does not want to miss anything I’m doing.

I moved my favorite painted cupboard into the gathering area in the kitchen.  I just was ready to move the pie safe into a new home.  I am digging the results.  I also got out my antique pinwheel quilt and hung it over my old black hanging cupboard.  My husband even noticed it and commented how much he liked it.  Selma reproduced this pattern last year and I think we only have two left.  It is a wonderful quilt.   It is a great size at 81” x 81″ and only uses three colors, two are my American Spirit fabrics.  I miss that line it was so much fun to work with but the new Jefferson County is going to be amazing too.  This kit is $121.00.   I am liking the pie-safe’s new home in the living room it brought in a lighter view I was missing.  I know I must be getting old because I find I need things lighter. Since I met Maggie I have also become obsessed with old ironstone.  I love to display them but I really like to use them even more.    If you don’t have access to antique platters our flea market platter set in the shop is wonderful alternative for $107.00.  I gave the girls all sets for Christmas and I know they love to use them daily.

I had to take home the rabbit pillows we just got in last week.  They found a home on the sofa in the family room and the grandsons enjoyed breaking them in.  They were comfortable but how playful  those rascally rabbits look racing around the sofa.   Little Irene is on the back of the sofa, this is a pattern Vickie designed and continues to be a wonderful old quilt to love.  We have made the quilt kits several times and still have them available.  Enjoy this glorious spring weather.

In the shop this is what is trending this week.  Love Suzanne’s new “James Madison” quilt.  James is a great little companion to Dolley but much more on the boyish side.  The pattern is $8.50 and the kits are $50.00.  You can tell we are beginning to get ready for Summer in the shop.  We just got in the most wonderful “Tin Oval Boxes”. The set of 3 come in navy, old red and gray.  Now imagine these stacked or placed by the fireplace with old flags in them.  I can see them with greens or dried Sweet Annie it’s a definitely a good thing and will be lots of fun to display in.  The set is $149.50.  The next little wonderful  my girls are screaming for is the new book from Country Threads “The Blue and the Gray”.  This is a great resource pattern book you will not want to miss out on and the cost is $24.99.  You can also see a little quilt we have loved and we are coming to the end of our kits but how perfect for it would be for your summer décor.  It is from Jo Morton’s Banner Day book and is called “Simply Sweet Churn Dash”. The kits are $37.00 and they include the backing.  Several folks may already have the book and may only need a kit and we would love to help you with that dilemma.  The next thing I have for you is “The Star” cross-stitch pattern.  We got it stitched and framed and as much as I like it framed it really makes a wonderful summer pillow and I love a pattern that gives us such great options.  Kits will be available.   You can also see some awesome Strawberry Pinkeeps.  These are made out of our redish brown silk Matka we sell and who knew?   Stacy obviously because they are one of the featured patterns shown in her new book.  We just had to make some to show you.  Kits will be available and come with ribbon and wool or you can just order the matka separetly.

Happy May Day! I don’t think anyone does the May Basket on the doors anymore but wasn’t it a great idea way back when?  We are too busy to do what we loved.  I have good intentions and know you all do too but everyone has theses crazy busy full schedules that get in the way.  I hope your day was beautiful in every way.   We have had 70 degree weather today, the doors open and loving the wonderful sunshine.  We have to buck up the cold Canadian air is on its way back but at least we don’t have snow.  My daffodils are in full bloom all over the woods, the trees are budding out, the blue birds and orioles are back in the feeders and houses and Spring has finally sprung!  Yeah!!!!!!!!!!

I really have to think about what’s ahead of us no more procrastinating.  So this little blog is about some new items that will begin to get you ready for summer and thinking about vacation projects.  Vickie has class this weekend and her projects are just  so perfect for a splash of summer.  If you remember we have been making projects from the great Moda Candy book.  We have to hurry as a new book will be introduced this month at quilt market.  What a great way to spend $10.00.  This weekend our project is a great basket table topper and two pillows.  Vickie used the nickel cut from Paint Box by Laundry Basket Quilts.  These are super fun fabrics to work with and look at and if you have the book and want to have a kit we made extra’s.  The cost for the kit, which includes backing and binding, is $33.50.  This might be a great little Mother’s Day idea.  Just Saying!

We finally got in our most anticipated “Primitive Hare” pillows.  I have to say they look great everywhere we have put them and they are already selling.  The cost is right at $22.95.  Don’t miss out, if you loved “Our Nest” and “Love you More” this will be another great choice and lots of fun to use in your decor.  I took two home and hope to play house this coming Sunday, if I get time I will snap a few pictures for you.  the good thing about these Hares they don’t eat every tulip that pops out of the ground.   I am in the mood to move furniture around and get the house in order for Memorial Day, and Summer.  I am totally blown away by inspired pictures in our new James Cramer book “The Gardens and Accoutrements Of James Cramer’, it is on line and totally worth the $36.00.  You will also love “A Simple Garden Journal” for $15.00, so inspiring, you want to garden for sure but keep these in mind for Mother’s Day.   I need to play soon as our teachers, Paula Barnes and Carol Hopkins will be staying with me for the duration of Grand Olde Flag.  I must get to it soon, I am actually getting excited to play hostess!

We just got another email someone got a glimpse of those runaway shop girls again today.  It must be warm down there the girls are wearing there sandals and we are still in our winter coats.  They look like they are having a wonderful time honoring today’s quilters while we are all slaving over orders.  Things are really

The shop girls were spotted at the quilt show in Paducah today.  Of all things they were canoodling with the Quilter’s “Super Quilter”.  I did not see that one coming, but it’s true because the picture was emailed to Selma, I knew someone would catch them in the act.  Those shop girls look like they are having way too much fun without us!

Before Miss Vickie left she finished the second “Over Thirty” project.  It is called “Catherine’s Cross” and “Cooper’s Choice”.  The small runner “Cooper’s Choice” is the club project we will be sending it is 20″ x 36″. The cost of the  2nd Over Thirty mailing is $43.50 and the kit includes the pattern, the backing and binding, you have everything you need and if you decide to order the quilt kit please call us and we can add it to your order.   The quilt project we will offer is “Catherine’s Cross” and you automatically get the pattern  for both of these projects if you are in the club.  It is 64″ x 68″.  What a great airy summer quilt this makes, the striped border is so refreshing and with the hints of subtle blues, old gold, grey and cream make this a perfect summer project.   The kit for the quilt is $117.00.   If you haven’t joined are club yet and want this special project it is never to late. FYI: It was discovered today that the chimneys were not charted on The Spring at Hollyberry Farm chart.  I contacted Stacy and I know I will have a map for you all soon.  We were about to have our model ready to go to the framer and it was discovered by our stitcher that it had been omitted.  This kinda of thing happens when we look at something for too long, we see things the way they should be and they are not always right.  Rest assured it will be corrected.

I can’t stand it, “My Name is Lidya” has arrived and I want to stitch it all, what an awesome book, its 68 pages of great inspiration.  I need to share some pictures with you so you know what I’m talking about.  This is Lidya Corker’s Sampler Sewing Roll pictured on the right.  You have the option to just stitch it or frame it like the original.    The next picture is of Lidya’s Pocket Roll.  This is a great way to store your needful threads, needles and scissors when you travel and want to take your stitching with you.  I will try and add more snippets tomorrow.

I can finally show you the “Swallows Around the Barn Door” pattern Vickie just finished.  It is really a beautiful quilt and measures 60″ x 72″.  It fits on the twin bed with a nice drop and really looks good with the bed covers I am always talking about.  You are also going to like the fact you can make some really swell pinkeeps  from the scraps.  Pinkeeps always look nice in a bowl and what a great gift for your quilting friends.  The pattern sells for $8.50 and the kit is $117.00.  I think the fabric Vickie used in this quilt  is a perfect choice for your lighter classic spring and summer home décor.  The swallow fabric used as setting blocks helps create the interest necessary in the quilt and you can see how the same soft teal color is carried out into the border.  We are loving this quilt.  When I showed you a peek last week it hadn’t been washed and the pattern was being printed.  We are now ready to ship.  Something to think about.

My next pictures were taken in the window.  I felt a need to show you something relevant to the season.  The old baby bed looks great with any quilt but I could not help feeling the urge to show off this classic.  Gwen’s  “Sunnyside Quilt” from the Spot Light on Neutrals book is stunning and the pattern was easy to follow and put together.  It is a great quilt that could easily be contemporary and yet still classic.  The quilt is 51″ x  68″ and the kit is $95.00. Our play on the colors used make this a great choice and so easy to drop into any décor.  I love these kind of quilts.

You can also see “Marmees Wish” it is  54″ square and you can see it folded across the bottom of the old iron crib.  I think this would be a great baby quilt for a little girl with the little pinks from Orchard House sprinkled throughout.  The other thing I want to mention is there are old greys in this quilt too and I think you will find grey is one of the most popular color choices out there right now, it is the new neutral.   The kit is $75.50 and includes a bonus velvet pillow pattern.  The pattern sells for $8.50  and you will need the pattern to make this quilt.  We are down to only 3 kits left and if you have admired this adorable quilt you might want to jump on it before it is gone.  We are finding that several of the good Orchard House prints are sold out.  It makes me sad when I can see what a versatile line it has been and how much pleasure it has been using the line with the fabrics from other great designers.   I hope you will enjoy some new looks for the new seasons classic and chic lifestyles that are being shown this spring.

I know by emails today that you are all thinking about our little Jenna this  picture was taken three weeks ago in between her continuous sick state.  She is usually happy even though she can hardly breath, amazing.  But this week her little eyes were not sparkling, and no smiles or cooing.  I hope we get her on the right track but I think Sara knows she is going to have to take things into her own hands and try and help her.   Many thanks to all my customers that have had so many stories to share.  I am blessed.

This is Vickie’s new “Swallows Around the Barn Door ” I have it pictured on the bed and all of us are loving how the soft palette works into our spring décor in the shop.  Not only does it work but it gives us hope that Spring is not to far out there in the near future. The focal fabric that was used is from our French General line La Bette Fleur.  This quilt is 60″ x 72″  and the kit is $117.00.  You will need the pattern and that is $8.50.     Take a look at the spring runner Vickie made up for her class it is also on the  bed.  It reminds me of Easter eggs and the outside border is one of our best.  It is a quick project The kits are $29.00 and complete with backing and binding and the pattern is in the Moda Candy book for $10.00 that several of you probably have or if you don’t would like to invest in.   You are also able to see our best little Easter basket in the picture and it is only $24.00.  I think it would be great with eggs in it but perfect for your little American Flags this summer.

The next think I am going to talk about this week is our first “Over 30  Project”.   Suzanne has made up our first offering and I am quite sure you will all love it.  We have needed a baby quilt for some time that looked like us that could be for either gender and now we have it.  Suzanne calls her quilt “Dolley Madison”. This is the baby quilt kit and it is priced at $42.75 and measures at 36″ x 44″.  The pattern you will get in the Over 30 Club includes this quilt.  The small kit you will be getting is “Dolley’s Sewing Necessarie”. This is a replica of an old sewing case Suzanne owned and decided to reproduce and share with you.  It is made out of velvet and wool and some great Orchard House prints.  We hope to begin shipping this the first of April as we are waiting for more velvet and ribbon so that means you can still sign up and if you need a kit for this adorable baby quilt it can be sent out with your first kit.  Happy Birthday to me. Vickie will be doing the next project and I have already seen a preview, it is a great quilt no one will want to miss out on.  When my staff goes to work to wow the masses watch out!

Did you happen to notice the new Reproduction Baby Chair holding the Dolly Madison baby quilt.  It is outstanding, so sturdy and perfectly painstakingly constructed, you would never know it had been reproduced.  I know I need one, we only have one in stock but will take special orders and require a deposit to order one for you.  The chair retails for $319.00.

You need to take a look at this awesome “Terra Cotta Planter”,  I had good intentions of planting it weeks ago but that fell through.   That is not to say it won’t still happen but for now you need to at least see it.  It’s so beautiful and could be used for so many things.  The planter is sold for $118.00 and we have some in stock.  Imagine it filled with tulips for spring, red geraniums for summer, paper whites for Christmas and sitting on an old painted white table, it works for me.  Right now it looks pretty awesome on Vickie’s Spring Fever table topper we showcased a few blogs ago.  You can also see the Lichen Chicken she looks just right on this topper too.   I still love the paper tree and can’t wait to dress it with flags for summer.  Priced so right for it’s size at $85.00.

Suzanne has also designed “Meg’s Dowry  and Daisy’s Doll Quilt” with my Orchard House fabric.  It is another great new quilt you might want to think about.  It really is just the right size 57 1/2″ x 67 1/2 and  Daisy’s Doll Quilt is 20″ x 22″.  You get both patterns for $9.50 and you can get both quilts from one kit for $123.00.  I love this particular quilt because it has a great old look and feel to it.  If you have antiques this would be so perfect and easy to use in so many places.  You’ll notice Stacy’s Cat Pinkeep in this picture too, the kits have been mighty popular.  They are priced at $33.85.  “Winter At Orchard House” was our first Spring Quilt in 2013.  It is soft and beautiful like springtime and this is one of Vickie’s  new patterns.  The quilt measures 50″ x 62″ and the kit retails at $110.00 and the pattern is sold separate for $8.50.   You will see it pictured in one of our old suitcases all ready to find a new home.  It is a soft and clean looking quilt  and how I’m picturing the end of winter and beginning of a new season and kind of how our home decors begin to look as we make the transition.  Grey, pale yellow, old rose pinks and creams are colors that are used and welcome spring.

I thought you might like to see a close up of the new Prim Sister project that is shipping.   Well not exactly shipping we are stalled waiting for finishing fabric and more ribbon but I have to believe it will be in this week and we will have all of the kits out by the end of next week.  Betty Dekat will be the next Prim Designer for the next shipment scheduled for May/June.  We can hardly wait.  You can still join for the year so if you are interested I hope you will give us a call.

Last of all this week I would like to show you a photo of the Photo Stand Frames we are carrying this season.  I think they are so great and could picture any antique family photos or even new.  We have three sizes they are  priced separately from $35.00 to $55.00.

Linda Thraen has just released a new pattern called “Marjorie’s Sewing Box” you may want to think about this one and we have so many great finishing fabrics to help you put it all together if you trust our judgment to pick just the right thing.  It is pretty swell for sure and the pattern is $8.00.

ere is my subtle little touch of Spring at the house.  I told you yesterday I could see that I needed a pop of color in the livingroom, I did and now I’m happy.  I absolutely love our white paper trees because that was exactly what I was needing in the corner to make my room come to life and feel like spring.    I also have a thing for tulips.  They are cheerful and clean looking and just make you feel good.  I got out my old nest , layered it with a wreath and some eggs and our new lichen running hare.  That might be as good as it gets but at least you can see I got the Christmas wreath off the door so I think there is hope.

My table is simple, Tobacco Coth, it makes is a perfect cover and whatever you put on it for dishes always looks traditional and right.  Tulips, this time my favorite white ones, in a clear container seem to be the right mix I need.  It’s simple and classic the way I like things to be if only we could bottle that concept.  I was telling you about my idea with the French linen table runner.  Do you see what I was going on about?  I think it takes that classic lined chair to another dimension when it is added to the back.  I’m convinced it works I just need to figure out how to descretly attach it and not make it permanent incase I want a change.   It’s possible in my mind.  

Here is a look at an old sampler I fell in love with in Nashville.  I may think about reproducing it as I love this time period “1871″ and the colors are so in the palette I am enjoying.  I’m sure they are faded but the faded colors are what appeals to me.

Lavender is another great dried product that makes me think Spring.  The smell is fresh and I think it is just an added touch you won’t regret.  We have bundles in the shop for $12

Spring, we are all waiting with great anticipation and it officially arrived today!  I missed it!  We are scheduled for more snow, the wind is howling and a high of 7 degrees is what to expect tonight!    Something is not quite right, but honestly it wasn’t right last year either when it was 80 degrees and cooking the earth in March and for the rest of the year.   I hated that, I would much rather layer up and wait patiently for those special spring days I love when the trees and flowers are talking.  Such extremes in these times it makes you wonder but when the weather man looks back over time it is perfectly normal we have extremes and everything cycles!  Well now that I have that figured out I am going ahead with spring in the shop and beginning to prepare for Easter next weekend it’s time!   I have to give you a look at what is trending with us and make you all feel better if you live in our neck of the woods.  It feels exciting that something is actually all about spring.  Isn’t funny how the ”Colfax County” quilt is fitting as a backdrop for our Spring gear?    This is what I tend to love about many of our quilts, they are timeless and I think you will note when its the fourth of July and it is all about red, white and blue you will still love this great quilt.  The quilt measures 84 x 84 and the kit is priced at $145.00. 

 Timeless is exactly what I love about the the old cream colored paper tree too.  This is also timeless and will be beautiful when you use it with flag bunting this summer and greens at Christmas.  The tree is about 42″ tall and is priced at $85.00.  I am taking one home tonight because when I sit at the breakfast counter and look into the living room that is what is missing.  The pop of color with my tulips is going to be great and if it is as good as I think it should be you will see my idea and know what I’m talking about.   The little spring wreath is another great idea for dressing a mirror, window, or cupboard doors, we have two styles and they sell for $25.00.

Remember we have great cards you can write your own greetings on the “Four Footed Lovers” is a hoot.   This one is so good you may just need it to greet your guests.  The cards are $1.65 and the holders which can be used in so many purposeful ways are $25.00.   They look old and go lots of places you may just need a unique way to display something and this may be your solution.   My husband can’t believe how the rabbits in our yard have eaten all of our shrubs to the point that there is nothing left, would you believe a few stems.  They are smart too, Reed is always looking for them but I think they must come out at night.  Happy Easter Mr. McGregor!

What a great new rabbit this is, he is called the “Lichen Running Rabbit”, so Prim, just perfect for the season I could hardly wait for him to arrive and he is also priced right at $45.00.  Another idea I like is the framed old colored egg paper.  It is smaller than the large old papers we sell but very easy to tuck in and it looks right.  It is only $15.00.  If you have room for the large one I love it too.  We have a new rabbit paper I think you will also want to think about.  The thing about the papers is if you get one size frame you can change them out and always have something new.  Something to ponder.

It seems anything French is popular, I have to say the new linen table runner is one of my favorites.  There are bees and this year that tends to be a trend that is getting attention.  The runner sells for $20.00.   I took one home and put it over the back of my parsons chair.  As I looked at it I thought how neat to cut it in half and tack to the back of both of my chairs it turns my plain chair into what is revelant today in the magazines.  It looks like it was made for that idea and it is dated 1868.  I sometimes have to repurpose things when I love the way they look but can’t settle on how I want to use them.   I’m just saying it is an idea and the natural colors bring it all home in any decor and the best thing is the cost and you get a significant change.

The other new tree is a “Bottle Brush Teal Tree”.  It’s all about the color with this old looking tree.  It does cost more but it is not paper.  The cost is $100.00.  I would probably have to put it in an old tin or old dark crock to satisfy my need for a more aged look. 

You can see our little Lichen Hen in this photo too.  She is made out of the same material as the Lichen Rabbit, she is priced at $28.25.  Chickens now that’s another trend we started seeing last Christmas.  Our chicken ornaments were by far the most popular and we already have them in again if you are interested in adding to your collection. 

The other wreaths we have in are toally perfect for Easter I hope you will decide you might need one.  I have a small stack in one of the two sided clock scales.  Love the wreath, love the clocks.  We have two styles.  Scales are another thing you will begin seeing everywhere, antique shops and in the magazines.  I love it when we can be in on what is trending and the trend is something I can see as lasting.  There are great old brown eggs to be had, nests to use on your Easter table with our great spring toppers I have talked about in the past few weeks.  We are ready, bring it on!  Happy Spring!!!
